The “Coach Steven Edwards Scholarship Award”, was founded by his former athletes and students in honor of the role he played in their lives. Steve Edwards is a 1972 graduate of Cleveland Heights High School (CHHS). After graduating from Bowling Green State University Steve returned to CHHS as an assistant track coach, to coach with his mentor, Dick Mann. As a coach, Steve affirmed the value of an education; the importance of a strong and positive character, and willingness to demonstrate respect for others. We are looking for students that are determined to be successful on the track, in the classroom, in school hallways, and in life so they can have a “Tomorrow”! Coach Edwards taught and coached in Aurora, IL. (District 204) from 1988-1997. Serving as the Head Boys Track Coach for Waubonsie Valley High School. 

 

Criteria:

Graduating senior, minimum 2.5 GPA, participates in boys or girls track their junior and senior years, demonstrates the core values that Coach Edwards expects from athletes: 

 

  • Importance of an education

  • Strong, positive character

  • Respect for others

  • Determination to be successful on the track and in life 
     

Requirements: 

  • Letter of recommendation from the boys / girls head track coach and two (2) others stating the qualities of the student’s character and achievement. 

  • Applicant is to complete an essay expressing; 

  • They're educational goals over the next two to four years, and how they hope to impact the lives of others. 


Scholarship Awards:

  • The amount of the scholarship money will be disclosed annually. Cover page must be included with essay and recommendations. All applications will be reviewed by the Coach Steven Edwards Scholarship committee.

  • Finalists will be contacted by the scholarship committee

Coach and Mrs Edwards cover all administrative cost and match donations up to $5000 for each school. All donations are tax deductible.
